Qualifications
-
- Minimally, a
B.A. and teaching experience in ESL.
- Teachers
with TESL certificates or equivalent teaching experience will have
priority.
- A standard
one-page resume with three references listed.
Overall
Responsibilities -
The Program Teacher has four major responsibilities:
- Serving as teacher
for all class and field activities.
- Cooperating
with the group coordinator, NISE administrative staff and program
escorts.
- Understanding
NISE philosophy, specifically goals and objectives, including host
family guidelines.
- Understanding
NISE curriculum guide, itinerary and calendar.
General
Duties -
- Serve as the
primary English teacher for all class and field activities (including
the camping trip for the Japanese programs), normally five days a week
from 8:30 to 3:30, with Friday ending at 12:30; one day each week is
an all-day excursion.
- Take the
lead in planning English language instruction using the NISE
curriculum and in cooperation with the Group Coordinator.
- Participate
in all class and itinerary functions of the program (activities),
including host family orientation, welcoming and farewell parties,
camping trip (if applicable), airport arrival and departure.
- Assist Group
Coordinator in conducting Host Family Orientation.
- Cooperate
with the Group Coordinator in the day-to-day activities as outlined in
the Itinerary and Curriculum Guide and materials for this
activity-centered program.
- Participate
in two staff training sessions.
- Evaluate the
program.
