Without the support of its
host families, NISE would only be half a program! While the students
live as a part of an American family, both students and families receive the
benefit of an enriching cultural experience and make new lifelong friends.
NISE's host families have a broad range of backgrounds, interests and
experiences, providing students with a real flavor for the diversity that
America is proud of.
Families provide room
and board and an American family experience. The host family is responsible
for either transporting the student to and from the program center or
organizing carpools with other host parents. Families are encouraged
to participate in many of the program excursions and activities. The
homestay experience is meant to improve American understanding of the other
country's values and attitudes, and to expose the visiting student both to
American English and American culture.
